The kind of “as a service” determines the division of responsibility between consumer and provider.
PaaS implies that the service provider is responsible for run-time monitoring and management. The consumer does not manage or control the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers, operating systems, or storage, but has control over the deployed applications and possibly application hosting environment configurations. The resource is pulled from a pool of servers distributed across data centers under the provider’s control, the user is then granted access to this resource in order to build their own IT platforms. Instead of owning, managing and operating your own computer hardware, you can use computers that someone else owns, manages and operates. Benefits include lack of need to invest in your own hardware; dynamic workloads are supported by Infrastructure scales on demand and the availability of flexible and innovative services on demand.
